Visual Analog Scale (VAS)
A pain rating tool developed to score pain in an individual. The tool is not meant to compare between individuals, but rather to compare different times in the same individual. It provdes a numeric value for comparisons between points in time.
Pain Diagram
The pain diagram allows a patient to mark the locations of pain or other sensations. This is often easier than describing the locations, and may allow for describing different sensations in different patterns. It could be overlaid with a dermatome chart or an innervation chart.
