Your Privacy and Confidentiality are vital to us.
As a site dedicated to research, trust is paramount. For this reason our privacy policy can be summarized in a few key phrases:
1. Collect only what is necessary for research.
2. Delete anything collected once the research is complete.
3. Only share information with those performing the studies.
A few words, but improtant ones. By following these principles, we hope to earn the trust of researchers and research participants alike. A more detailed policy is below, for those interested.
Our Privacy Policy: In Depth...
What personally identifiable information is collected:
The only identifiable information will be what you enter, and that will vary by the study design. Most studies will be able to be completed using assigned numbers, eliminating any personal information from being collected. However, if a study needs personally identifiable information, it will ask you to fill in a box/blank to give that information. You will always know what we are collecting, and have the option to not provide it (although you may not be able to complete the study in that case....)
What personally identifiable information do third parties
collect through the Web site:
The only parties who collect anything personally identiable are the parties carrying out the research. We WILL NOT collect information and give it to anyone except as a result of a study. Unless, of course, court orders require us to hand over information already collected.
Who collects the information:
The information is collected by the people running this website. In almost all cases, that would be James Mooney alone. Occasionally, outside expertise may be required for developing portions of the site, but these people will only access dummy data (i.e. they'll be gone before real study data is collected).
How is the information used:
The information is exclusively used for pain research. Only legitimate pain studies will be conducted, by legitimate researchers. No market research or other use will be allowed.
With whom may the information be shared:
The information collected (whether it is personally identifiable or not) will only be provided to the staff running the research study. After the data has been collected and transmitted to the study staff it will be deleted (allowing a period of 30 days as a backup).
Choices available to users regarding collection, use and distribution of the information:
In essence, when you consent/assent for a study, you are agreeing to provide the information to those performing the study. If you decide you don't wish to provide information after that, simply don't enter it into this web site. If you decide you don't wish information you have already provided on this web site to be used, contact those running the study directly.
How is the information we gather protected:
We make reasonable efforts to provide a secure web site. We don't publicly distribute the URL (Universal Resource Locator aka the address) of a study, we password protect sensitive areas and store as little data on the server as is reasonable. Unfortunately, no site is 100% secure. This is why we try to keep any identifiable information to an absolute minimum. This way, even if someone breaches our site, no identifiable information would be obtained.
