Pain Support Groups

You are not alone....

Often, patients with chronic pain can feel like what they are experiencing is unique. Their friends and family often have difficulty understanding what they are feeling. A sense of isolation sets in.

The internet allows people across the globe to connect and communicate. What may happen to only a single person in ten thousand still means there could be thousands of people with the same condition online. They can share their experience, their resources, and their understanding.

What types of support groups are there?

There are many types, ranging from local community groups meeting over coffee and donuts to virtual communities spanning the globe. Many can refer you to specialists or local support meetings. Others may provide links to research results or even studies in progress. Finding them may be the biggest difficulty.

Organizations focusing on research of a particular illness will often have links to relevant support groups. Even if they don't, they'll often have information that may help you ( or an aquaintance ) understand an illness better.

Support groups for generalized pain or chronic pain can help, without being specific for a cause of pain. Often, meeting other people who are dealing with pain can be of help.

The Navigation bar to the left can direct you to specific support organizations on the web.
